MARVELLOUS RETURN FOR HEROES Having recently returned from India, I thought some of your older readers, who like me, served out there during the war, may be interested. The scheme was financed with funds from the lottery, named 'Heroes Return'. This was to enable anyone who served abroad, between 1939 and 1945, the opportunity to have a return visit.Unfortunately, we were not able to visit Kohima or Imphal due to the unrest and safety in this area. We decided we would go to Calcutta and Darjeeling to have a ride on what is now known as the 'Toy Train' which we had been on in 1945. The railway travels through the foothills, climbing to 8,000ft, taking four hours to do the journey into Darjeeling. The last steam engine which is still working today was built in Glasgow in 1896. We spent 11 days between the two places and had a very good time, although after 60 years, we could not remember anything. I would like to say thank you to Robert Broad Travel of Lichfield who arranged this trip for us. First class all the way. T Shepherd, J Brown (Ex RAF), Cross Street, Burntwood. 6th May 2006 - The Times - We have again been featured in the national press. This time in The Times on Saturday 6th May 2006. Our specialised sports website (www.sportseventstravel.co.uk) was featured along with a number of tours that we are currently booking. News Archive:

We are very pleased to be welcoming back Lucy to our company. Lucy has travelled to a wide range of destinations including Mallorca and Orlando Travel Aid 50 is a fund-raising initiative driven by members of the UK Travel Industry that will support projects to re-build and sustain community infrastructure, such as schools, orphanages and community centres, in tourism destinations affected by the earthquake. Many of the people and communities affected are 100% reliant upon tourism for their livelihoods. The UK Travel Industry is totally committed to helping rebuild these communities, both directly through Travel Aid 50 and other aid initiatives, but also through continuing to promote tourism to these affected areas - they need our ££'s more than ever. Travel Aid 50 has formalised a partnership with PATA. TA50 will distribute funds via the PATA Foundation. PATA will use it's network in the region to identify worthy projects. The proposed projects will be passed via the TA50 board of trustees for approval, before being passed back through PATA for the management of the re-development initiative. PATA and TA50 will work on a co-branded basis in the region. Work has already commenced to identify appropriate projects. Why 50 pence? Simplistically we wanted TA50 to be as inclusive as it possibly could and enable as many travel companies to get involved as possible. Some companies have chosen to give a lot more, others have simply made a donation, and other companies are assisting the initiative significantly in other ways. The more companies that are involved the greater the chance we collectively have of making a significant and tangible contribution to those tourism communities in the affected region that we have all worked so closely with over many years. When you book a holiday through a Travel Company displaying the Travel Aid 50 logo, they will make a donation for every booking made until further notice.

Principal Competition Lichfield based travel agency, Robert Broad Travel, is rising above the competition following their nomination in the 2004 Principals Awards for Agency Achievement. Judged on regional standards of travel excellence, the award is an acknowledgement of innovation, professionalism and achievement by key figures within the travel industry. It is the only award to focus exclusively upon leisure and business travel agencies operating within the UK. Well established since 1985 and with a firm family link to the travel industry dating back to the 1930s, Robert Broad Travel has been selected from around 7000 agencies nationally. One of five finalists to represent the Midlands region, Managing Director, Alan Broad, commented: “As we continue to expand our portfolio of services and destinations, this nomination only confirms the exceptional quality which we provide. Winning the award would be a great mark of our achievements as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary next year” Whilst tensions between high-street chains and independent businesses continue to set the stage for ‘healthy’ competition, Robert Broad Travel sees this nomination as a sure sign that the hard work of the independent agency remains at the forefront of Industry recognition. “It’s good to know that independent family-run businesses, such as ours, continue to be acknowledged by key figures within our Industry” To celebrate the success of their nomination, Robert Broad Travel is offering readers the opportunity to win a £500 Kirker Holidays Voucher.
